The Appeal of Unfinished Pine Furniture - Part 2Knots are always an expected feature and is also considered to be part of the whole aesthetic but do look out for knots which can eventually create a whole in the piece. One too many knots on a wood can make it weak in the long run. Also, pine can be very easily scratched as well as dented so it needs extra amount of care. It can also warp if constantly exposed to moisture and humidity. This is why it is not recommended for outdoor use. Amazingly, custom built unfinished pine furniture can be very affordable. There are Local Mennonite and Amish communities who have skilled woodworkers who would be able to create custom pieces for approximately the same price or even less than the price of mass-produced work available at popular retail outlets. But there can also be reasonably priced furnishings sold at big box retail shops such as IKEA. They can carry a wide array of mass-produced pieces which you would have to put together with minimal difficulty. You can also try looking in garage sales, used furniture shops as well as flea markets because you never know when you might come across one. These kinds of furnishings are very sturdy and can last a long while especially if it is well taken care of. If you do find one in good condition and at a good price, you can get it refurbished and refinished to better suit and match your current furnishings.
